Calmont Klettersteig Ladder obstacle
Hiking, the Calmont ViaFerrata

The Calmont ViaFerrata guides you along beautiful narrow paths winding through the vineyards. The route meanders between steep slopes and features various obstacles such as rocks, staples, and ladders, offering breathtaking views of the Moselle.

Just that extra bit of excitement during the hike!

Starting the route at the Moselle and with a beginning and an endpoint. By that, I mean the route doesn’t end where you started, but further along the Moselle. At the beginning of the route, there’s a mailbox containing the route information flyer, so you can decide your return journey at the end. The ascent is quite challenging but much more beautiful and adventurous than returning via the road.

No need for climbing gear!

This obstacle-filled hike is designed for experienced hikers. Most via ferrata routes require climbing gear, but not this one. However, it’s advisable to wear sturdy hiking boots as there are steep slopes and ladders.

Rest Stops

There are plenty of rest stops along the route. Since the paths frequently ascend and descend, having a good level of fitness is handy. Once you reach a rest stop, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views overlooking the vineyards towards the Moselle.

Take a moment of silence and enjoy the surroundings!

Return via the Calmont Höhenweg.

If you’re feeling truly exhausted after the Calmont ViaFerrata route, I recommend walking back via the road. We went back via the Calmont Höhenweg, which was quite a tough climb for us! Along the way, you’ll encounter some very beautiful views, and eventually, you’ll reach the top of the Calmont, where you can enjoy a stunning vista and see as far into the Moselle as possible. Once you’ve reached the top, the way back via the Calmont Höhenweg is an easy walk
